Being ADHD can be exhausting. Not only because of the challenges ADHD brings, but because of the years spent feeling different.
Perhaps you've been told you're too sensitive, too emotional, too disorganised or that you just need to try harder. Over time, these messages can become the way you see yourself, leaving you feeling shame, frustrated or as though you're somehow getting life wrong.
My approach is ADHD-affirming. Rather than trying to make your ADHD disappear, therapy helps you understand yourself with compassion instead of criticism. Together, we explore your unique experience of ADHD, helping you move away from shame and towards greater self-acceptance.
Many people come to therapy hoping to find the right strategy that will make them "less ADHD".
While practical tools can help, therapy isn't about changing who you are. It's about understanding yourself, making sense of your experiences and learning to treat yourself with kindness rather than judgement.
Many of my clients describe struggling with intense emotions. Instead of seeing these feelings as something to fix, we work to understand and validate them. As your inner critic becomes quieter, emotions often begin to feel less overwhelming.
I was diagnosed with ADHD later in life, so I know what it's like to finally make sense of yourself. Learning to accept my own ADHD has been incredibly freeing, I now understand myself and can be kinder and less critical.
If you're looking for ADHD therapy that helps you understand yourself, let go of shame and feel more at ease with who you are, please get in touch.
